Fulton Mansion and Updates on its Renovation

Fulton Mansion

The Fulton Mansion is an important part of history in Rockport, Texas. In 1840 George W. Fulton married the daughter of the republican politician Henry Smith. The Fulton’s shipped cattle from Rockport to New Orleans in the 1870’s where they made a large sum of money. The mansion was built between the years of 1874 and 1877. This house was well advanced for its time with gas lighting, central heating, and indoor plumbing. This house was a popular spot for the whole town. The Fulton’s lived in this house for 18 years.

The home has recently underwent a major renovation and is not once again ready for guests. It has been restored to what it looked like back in the 1800’s and is a unique and exciting place to visit. The Fulton Mansion offers three different ways for you to enjoy a tour. You can either take a self guided audio tour, a self guided  handout tour, or a docent led tour. Your tour will begin at the history center which is located behind the mansion. Extra time should be allowed so guests can explore the garden and gift shops. Adults get in for 6 dollars and children get in for 4 dollars. The Fulton Mansion can also be booked for large events.
