Work or School from your Vacation Home

Work or School from your Vacation Home

Many people are still working from home and a lot of schools are teaching students through zoom classes. If you're looking for a change of scenery while still being able to complete your daily tasks, then head to Rockport and spend a week or two at the coast. All of our homes offer Wifi, so you can sit out on the patio overlooking the bay and get some work done.

Rockport also offers many great learning opportunities for the kids. We have come up with a list of our favorites.

1. Teach them to fish!

For younger kids you can show them how to hold the fishing pole, cast, and reel in a fish. For older kids, show them how to bait their hook. Teach them about the variety of fish they can catch, the difference between freshwater and saltwater fish, and what fishing techniques are best for each kind.

2. Birds

Rockport is home to hundreds of different bird species, many that can be seen from the backyard! Fall is the perfect time to go birding with your kids as you can see amazing raptor flights from Merlins Swainson's, Broadwings, and Peregrines.

3.  Fulton Mansion

Take a tour of the Fulton mansion and get a glimpse into the life of an affluent family from the 1800s. See first hand George Fultons engineering skills and learn about how advancements such as interior gas lighting and flush toilets were extremely rare and luxurious at the time.

4.  Goose Island State Park

Let your kids explore nature as Goose Island State Park sits at the point of the Lamar Peninsula and is filled with bays and estuaries. Goose Island State Park has both a mainland and an island. Point out the variety of plants on the shell ridge portion of the island including sea ox-eye daisy, wolfberry, sea purslane, baccharis and seashore dropseed grass. On the mainland you can find live oak / red bay woods with yaupon holly, American beautyberry, coralbean and wax myrtle. Also keep your eyes open for wildlife including white-tailed deer, raccoons, armadillos, foxes, squirrels, cottontail rabbits and over 300 varieties of birds.
